The desire to work together and create strong connections
Founded in 1954 by Guy Roy, Les Services Ménagers Roy revolutionized an industry in which, at the time, building owners did their own cleaning. Guy Roy earned his first major contract in 1956 at Saint-Charles-Borromée Hospital. Back then, the company had 400 employees.
In 1998, Guy Roy’s son, Jean-Yves Roy, was officially appointed Chief Executive Officer, after serving as Executive Vice President since 1977. Under his leadership, Les Services Ménagers Roy became Le Groupe SMR, offering a full range of services, along with five specialized subsidiaries: Les Services Ménagers Roy, Services Après-Sinistre Roy, Gestion Technique d’Immeubles Roy (G.T.I. Roy), Services d’Extermination Roy and Triosystème. Groupe SMR had 900 employees at the time.
In 2013, under Julie Roy’s management, the family business name was changed, simply, to Roy. In 2018, Julie Roy acquired Signature, the company’s closest competitor. Today, the women-owned business and 50th largest company in Quebec—according to Les Affaires—has climbed the ranks to become a leader in its industry, boasting among its clients some of the most prominent companies in Quebec. Julie Roy, the one who dreamed of leading Roy. since the age of 4 years old, has made it her mission to positively impact the lives of others and to be recognized as the top employer in Canada. Today, Roy. has 2,800 employees from all backgrounds.
